BPA, FDA and California Prop 65

Behmor products are BPA FREE (no BPA) and exceed (for safety) all FDA standards as such are certified as safe/ compliant by the FDA.

Behmor has always prided itself on leading in everything we do, even when it was more expensive, so in 2007 we sought to be the first appliance manufacturer in the world to use lead free technology (RoHS- reduced hazardous substances) in the production of our home roaster’s electronics and directed the assembler to always use recyclable materials.

We care about our user’s health and our environment as such will list the following despite my sincere belief our products do not in any way fall within the group but as noted below it’s cheaper than being frivolously sued. A perfect example this can be found in a recent ruling in the State of California requiring roasted coffee carry a label stating coffee causes cancer when research shows the opposite is true.

To avoid that frivolous suit and passing all costs on to you, the consumer, please see the following:

Proposition 65

For our customers in the State of California you will begin to notice new warning labels on our products. Given the recent insanity of the state courts we felt it prudent to do so.

Proposition 65 requires we place warning labels on any product that contains or may contain any of the more than 800 elements that the California Air Resources Board considers harmful.

Many of the elements listed under Proposition 65 have been routinely used in everyday consumer items for years without ever being documented as harmful.

All said-

The warning reads:

WARNING: This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer.

WARNING: This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm.

The penalties for failing to comply with Proposition 65 are significant whereas there are no penalties for providing unnecessary warnings.

Like many other manufacturers of all types of products, we have elected to provide a Proposition 65 notice out of an abundance of caution in order to avoid the potential for liability and the ambulance chasing attorney or overzealous politician.
