This issue is caused by one of two things.
- Too fine a grind of coffee. This happens more commonly with the gold filter because unlike a paper filter, it can only handle a grind about the consistency of kosher salt, somewhere between a fine grind and a French press grind. Try adjusting your grind.
- The carafe is slightly too short for the new filter basket. If the carafe/lid combo are just 2-3mm short, the little valve on the bottom of the grounds basket doesn’t push up far enough to dispense coffee into the carafe. Test for this by putting a single layer kitchen towel under the carafe and try brewing to see if that solves the problem.
